Defying Standards

Impressionists paved the way for artists who wanted to think outside of the box. If Monet had not pursued his artistic passions, Impressionism would never exist. The Impressionist era and Monet, who persisted despite critical reception of his work, broke artistic barriers and changed the art world forever.

"It is a trite saying that French Impressionists threw open the shutters of art and let in the light, but, like other trite sayings, it is absolutely true... Monet was, as many of his early critics declared, a madman, but his madness was enthusiasim for beauty in nature, a worship of life."
