Claude Monet, a painter in the 1860’s, broke the barrier of traditional conformist norms of the Paris Art scene to create the Impressionist movement. The political and cultural environment at this time set the stage for Impressionism to become a significant force in the art world. Despite its critical beginnings, Impressionism would inspire future artists and shape the art world as we know it.
